However, this narrow focus has inadvertently created a crisis of signal fidelity in next-generation passive optical networks (PONs). The true “delight” in a PLC splitter is not merely about losing fewer photons; it is about engineering a device that actively preserves phase coherence across all output ports under thermal stress.
The demand for such precision is not academic. In 2024, the global deployment of 25G-PON and 50G-PON architectures has accelerated, requiring splitters that maintain a channel uniformity deviation of less than 0.3 dB.
